The Kadoorie Foundation

Sometimes an event is defined by a single moment.

Like a hike up a mountain, the view at the peak is a memory that sort of becomes the title sequence of the whole adventure.

The same can be said for when the Kadoorie Foundation visited their beneficiary fishermen in the islands of Concepcion in Northern Iloilo.

Just a little backstory before anything else:

Sir Michael Kadoorie is, to put it simply, one of the wealthiest men in Hong Kong. He comes from a family of hardworking and driven businessmen, his own father and uncle expanded their family trading business into utilities and real estate all over Hong Kong. He is also one of the most generous philanthropists of our time, consistently championing a variety of causes through the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation.

Sir Michael is also the chairman of the Peninsula Hotel Group, which owns and operates the Peninsula Manila, which my mom, Nene Chan, is a part of. During one of the board meetings after Typhoon Yolanda, Sir Michael asked my mom how the country was doing with the recovery efforts and mom told him all about the need for boats in Northern Iloilo, and he very quickly put us in touch with his foundation and they donated 263 boats for the fishermen.

A few months after the donation was made, the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation wished for a documentation of the endeavor, they sent the then General Manager of the Peninsula Manila, Ms. Sonia Vodusek, in their stead.

Here is a video of that wonderful occasion, and the moments that defined that day.
