1Meal Speaker Series: Dr. Janine Patricia G. Robredo

The 1Meal Program proudly inaugurates the Speaker Series, with the guest of honor: Dr. Janine Patricia G. Robredo.

Dr. Tricia is a graduate of the Ateneo School of Medicine and is an incoming Harvard Medical School Master student of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery program. She is an inspiring student who has weathered the many challenges of university at the same time one of the leaders of the 2022 presidential bid of her mother, Atty. Leni Robredo. Dr. Tricia bravely faced many of her mother’s detractors head on in her house to house campaign, the largest of that style of campaigning ever attempted in the Philippines.

During her speech, Doc Tricia focused on the realities of life and the troubles of students as she reminded the 1Meal scholars not to lose hope or to feel alone during their journey. She discussed the challenges of being a student and still having to worry about their other obligations. She shared how despite her failures, she would constantly pick herself back up and move forward with the end goal in mind. Dr. Tricia shared that medicine was not her first choice, as she had dreams of being a writer, but we do not always get a say where we will end up in life and we must accept the path we are given. And now as she begins this new journey in the US she shared with the graduates her fears and her hopes and dreams.

Dr. Tricia was a wonderful example to the students who have all at one point or another felt alienated or alone in their journeys, through her sharing the students are able to relate to a figure who has been through many of the same challenges and see that there is a lot of hope in the future that they will succeed and enjoy a life filled with rewards for the effort they have put in.
